Event requirements

The PCA Track Experience is designed to introduce you to the HPDE program, and demonstrate track driving skills and techniques at speed. UMC is a terrific facility with lots of amenities like paved parking, gas pumps and real bathrooms.

You do not have to be a PCA member to participate, nor do you need to bring your Porsche! We expect a wide variety of makes and models on the track, so you can bring any performance vehicle which your instructor will drive, or simply ride with your instructor.  There are also safety requirements for you and your car. These include Snell M 2015, SA 2015 or later rated helmets, and closed toe shoes. Helmets will be provided for those without access to a current helmet. Your car will also need a tech inspection before being allowed on the track, and our friends at LVRY will do that on the day of the event. Alternatively, you can simply join the instructor in their car.

Tentative Schedule:

  • Onsite check in registration runs from 0900-1000.
  • All Track Experience participants need to be in the classroom at 1000.
  • Classroom will be followed by a Tech Inspection, a "parade lap" session at 1200, and then a 25 min track session with an instructor at1300.

Driver's Education Information
We look forward to having an extremely fun and safe event. We intend to follow PCA and Intermountain Region PCA guidelines during this event.
All Driver's Education programs are based on a non-competitive format. We will not keep track of lap times.

Required equipment:

  1. If you'd like to be in your own car, it will need to pass a basic tech inspection that will be provided at the track by our track partners at LVRY. The basics are good tires, brakes, seatbelts, etc., and no leaking fluids. If you choose to use your vehicle, you are responsible to make sure that your car is safe for high-speed use. If you have any concerns, contact the DE Chair: de@irpca.org
  2. Shorts and short sleeved shirts will be acceptable for this event. Cotton is OK. Fire resistant materials are always recommended in a track environment.
  3. Closed toe shoes made of cotton or leather. Socks are required.
  4. Helmets rated Snell M 2015, SA 2015 or newerDOT and motocross helmets are not permitted.
    1. If you need a helmet, please indicate on the signup form.
  5. Stock 3 point seatbelts are fine. If the participant has any other restraint system, please contact the DE Chair at de@irpcaorg.
  6. Brake lights must work, steering must not be loose, brakes should feel firm, suspension and wheel bearings should be checked for tightness.
  7. The car's contents must be cleared out prior to entering onto the track. Batteries must be secured.
  8. Numbers on both sides of the car must be a contrasting color to car body and be at least eight inches tall. Taller numbers are recommended at this track. Painters tape is recommended, for Track Experience participants, and we can assist you at the track. Painters tape is a great option as it does not leave a residue and is easily applied/removed.
  9. No Convertibles without roll-over protection. Porsche Boxsters and 996, 997, & 991 Cabriolets have Factory roll-over protection.  Earlier cars must add a Roll Bar or Roll Cage.

Want a track map or video walkthrough? Go here: http://irpca.org/track-events/resources-rules/track-maps

Only you and the instructor will be in the car, with the instructor driving and explaining the entire track process, including vision/awareness, corner worker stations/flagging, line, braking and accelerating, car weighting, understeer/oversteer, passing zones and procedures, etc.

Safety on the track and in the pits is paramount. The Number One objective of novice drivers on a track and in the pits should be to become aware of their surroundings, other traffic, and flaggers. Number two objective is to be aware of how a car responds to various inputs. We'll be describing these in detail as we proceed through the experience.
